Out of the Blue invites the young reader along on a thrilling adventure with two school friends, Jack and Casey. The opening of this tale finds the two friends finishing a week of school and planning what to do during the weekend. This is to be a weekend like no other weekend! Jack and Casey are embroiled in a spine-tingling, suspense-packed adventure in a bid to discover why Jacks mothers briefcase should be the only item stolen in a burglary, that fateful Friday night. The plot gains momentum when they receive threats and a bewildering demand for code deciphering. The ensuing swift thinking on Jacks part culminates in an unanticipated turn of events for the weekend. This book has been written primarily as an adventure, but it also serves to offer the young reader a window through which to observe the societal tenets of right and wrong that weave through the fabric of the story. The author, Mattie Simpson, has endeavoured to convey and highlight the comradeship and depth of trust between the two main characters, when faced with threats from the underbelly of society.
