Fiji is Paradise and tourist come to enjoy its beauty and the friendly people with big smiles. However behind that big smile is a very violent culture that has a history in waring tribes and cannibalism. Today Fijians have to be satisfied with Rugby and as hired soldiers as an outlet for a part of them that was firmly suppressed by the colonial rulers. Fijians have gotten so good at these two profession it has become two of the highest income earners for the nation, second only to tourism.
This book gives a little glimpse into what it is like to grow up in the culture that has produced some of the world's best combat soldiers and rugby players. If you have fought beside a Fijian or played rugby against one this is just a little glimpse into why they do what they do. It is a book of short stories and poems that is aimed primarily at entertainment. However there is enough in the stories for those who may have a serious intent on studying a culture that is probably the modern equivalent of the Spartans during Greek mythological times.
