HE IS MORE... AND NEVER WHAT SHE OR ANYONE CAN EVER IMAGINE
IN THE DEEP SHADOWS OF THE JUNGLE LIES THE SECRET

More and more evidence is telling Camila that Javier is more than what he can remember. She cannot put it aside anymore. He is someone supernatural -- but what?

A research team has arrived as guests in her parents' Bed & Breakfast and Camila and Javier have to come along their exploration of the jungle for the sacred cenotes as volunteers. The coming of the American's, especially of the cocky per Drew, instantly put pressure on Camila and Javier's budding relationship. But as they go deeper into the jungle, Javier begins to see familiar surroundings that trigger in him horrible memories of being sacrificed. And Camila doesn't know how to help him.

But lost memories aren't the only things lurking in the forest. There is also danger, and it is about to ambush Camila and Javier, and their guests....

“Well, he makes some decent food,” Meryse said, scooping some of the mix onto a tortilla.

Camila did the same and bit into hers. It was good, compared to the canned eggs.

“Yeah, but–”

Whatever Drew was supposed to say was cut off by a wailing noise.

“Monkeys?” Adam asked, looking at Camila.

It took Camila an embarrassingly long time to realize that the noise was human and that it came from Javier. She jumped up from her folding chair and followed the sound, crashing through the tangle of foliage that snaked around her legs and caught her hair.

She hadn’t gone twenty feet when she stumbled into a small clearing. A moss-covered stone pillar stood right in the middle of it. It was covered in the intricate spiral carvings that were typical of Mayan – or imitation of Mayan – artwork.

On the ground, below the stone pillar, was Javier, rocking back and forth, banging his head with a terrifying force against it.

“Javier! What are you doing?!” she cried as she ran towards him, pulling him away from the stone pillar. He had scraped a good patch of skin off his forehead and blood was running down his face. She swore softly and stripped off his T-shirt to staunch the blood. All the time, he was mumbling something.

“I remember,” he sobbed. “I was being made ready – the paint was on my body, the markings were clean and I was pure. They tied a stone to my feet and threw me into the green waters and I sank. But something wasn't right – this wasn't at all like what they'd prepared me for. I was supposed to breathe in the water but I’m sinking too quickly and I can't… I couldn't' do it. And then I realized I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to die–”

“What are you talking about?” Camila demanded, bewildered.

“I was a human sacrifice!” Javier said. The expression on his face was as horrified as hers. “I was tossed into one of these holes to die!”
