One at a Time

"But Father, he prayed, what can I do? I’m just one person…" An answer that was audible only to the ears of his heart struck him as clear as a bell: “But they die one at a time, my son, they die one at a time.” Larry slowed his car, pulled over to the curb of Franklin Boulevard, and stopped. With his head bent over the steering wheel he prayed, “Thank you, Lord. If they die one at a time, then we can help them one at a time.” Writer. Humanitarian. Visionary. Larry Ward would have scoffed at such lofty titles and reminded us that he was just one man. A man who humbly embodied the teachings of Christ to serve the world’s most vulnerable people – to end hunger in hard and remote places. He traversed continents, supplying food and hope to refugees in war-torn Vietnam, to famine victims in Ethiopia, and to disaster victims across the globe . Larry allowed his deeply treasured faith in Jesus Christ to guide him throughout his career until it culminated in the formation of Food for the Hungry, an international aid agency with its mission to free people from the grip of poverty around the world . . . one person at a time.
