Ode to the Night

To the night
whose words slip along the lamp shade
from my lovers mouth to mine,
words swallowed by kisses
while sleep dances around us
cutting through the candle flame
and flicking upward with each breath
filling his chest.

To the night
that spills in on the window.
beams of light and air,
sounds hugging the wheels of cars
the sides of trucks, and
trailing down to the pave
wet and licked black
by the early evening rain.

To the night
that pulls me in
like petals curved
and connects invisible lines on the walls
with my eyes,
tired and weary
awaiting something spectacular.

To the night
that will rest my mind in peace
When your muse meets me here
fills me with fortune and sights.

To my ever thankful heart
I pledge forevermore my night.
