Nicholas and the Bubbling River Three year old Nicholas mother has accepted a job that requires travel. His father, a writer with very little understanding of tools, mechanics, or the day to day life of caring for a house and children decides that he can handle the task with ease. Needless to say, Nicholas is giving his father the proverbial trial by fire when he locks himself and the family cat in the bathroom, turns on the water in the sink, and begins pumping the hand soap to beat the band. While Patrick, (the father) tries to talk Nicholas into unlocking the door, Nicholas decides that he doesnt know how. Meanwhile Lucky, (the cat) is tired of this game of chasing the bubbles and wants out of this liquid torture chamber. By the time 8 year old PJ gets home from school, the father has been battered, bloodied and at his wits end. This story is meant for children 8-11 years old, but teenagers and parents alike dissolve into laughter at the plausibility of the entire situation.
