New Emigration

It is not the strongest or the cleverest that survives but the one that is most open to change. I have borrowed these thoughts from Charles Darwin, who elaborated his evolution theory in the middle of the 19th century, pointing out that the world is in constant change and the importance of adapting to it. His thoughts are so eternal that they are true even today. The author of this book wishes to provide a guide to starting a new life – along similar principles. If you are not satisfied with your current situation and feel that the country where you live cannot offer you appropriate opportunities, the only thing you should do is recognise this and make a change. Is it possible that you can make your dreams come true only in a country far away? Yes. You only have one life, and you should live it as you like it. What would you like to see when you look back at the end of your journey? That you have made all the efforts you can? Or, if you watch the film of your life, will you ask the question: what if I had …?

What this booklet offers you is – provided that you have decided to make a change – give you a helping hand during the long journey that is ahead of you. What should I pay attention to if I am looking for a job in a completely strange country, where I don’t know anyone? What should my priorities be when renting an apartment? What is the easiest way to learn a language? These questions may seem trivial – but everyone will face them who leaves their mother country and moves to an unknown place. The author summarises and shares with the reader his own personal experience. However, what makes this booklet special is not that everyone who starts a new life should have a copy of it but that – besides specific, practical advice – it also provides spiritual support. As you read the chapters, you will know and feel that you are not alone: both the author and the people who write down their experience have gone through the same difficulties.

“Not bad”. Many of my acquaintances use these words to describe their current work and life circumstances. If you think deeper about the real meaning of these words, you will easily realise that this is sad. Saying “not bad” exactly means mediocre, nothing. “Not bad” is very far from good! Put your hand on your heart: do you deserve good? Or is “not bad” also acceptable? Believe me, everyone ought to have a share of “good”! Do you believe in happiness? That there will be days when you will go to sleep satisfied with your life? What I recommend is that you write down the following on a piece of paper and put it in a place you often see: “I am my own role model!” Be the person who you are proud of! Pleasant feelings, positive thoughts will attract only good things. This is no coincidence: similar things attract each other!
