Nel has always been a little bit different. She's a mute orphan raised on her uncle and aunt's farm in a small valley town called Sunlet. Her best friend is a boy named Kevin who seems to be just as odd as she is on occasion. His father is an inventor who has just created a device that can allow the girl to speak. And it is safe to say that Nel and Kevin tend to get into a lot of trouble time to time.

Then one day curiosity get's the best of them. When word spreads that pirates had stopped by town in their air ship, it was an adventure that neither of them could miss out on. But

little did they know that Nel was the very center piece of everything that was about to come. It turns out; she possesses the one thing that the bandits want. It also turns out, that her uncle, frustrated with her trouble causing had called the adoption agency to take the girl away.

So she runs. And Kevin joins not wanting to leave his best friend's side. They're captured by the pirates and taken out of Sunlet. And once outside her home she realizes that beyond the walls, the world is in turmoil. The world is constantly scavenged by beasts and mechanical monsters alike under control of immortal witch who will stop at nothing to control everything. And according to the captain of the ship, she is destined to bring this all to an end. At least that is what he hopes.
