My Silly Billy, Squeaky Cheeky, Floppy Poppy Family is a sweet rhyming bedtime (or anytime) story for children 2-8.  The tale follows an average day in the life of pre-schooler Rose and the unique conversations she has with her family.  Nobody speaks straight in Rose's household...but they all seem to understand each other!  The hand-illustrated picture book has an ambrosial, watercolour style that will engage both child and adult.

Join Rose and her cheeky canine counterpart as they frolic from dawn to dusk. The child reader will enjoy reading the flowing text with confidence while the adult reader can use the book as a shared experience to discuss the uniqueness and traditions of their own family.  Be prepared to sing the concluding lullaby more than once! Jellybean rainbows and violin playing dogs join your little one as they transition for sleep.

If you enjoy rhymes and like to pique the interest of your child reader, then My Silly Billy, Squeaky Cheeky, Floppy Poppy Family by Vanessa Jean Locke is a good selection for your family. This is the story of a special family that speaks to one another in rhyming phrases. They talk of getting out of bed and getting ready. They talk of telling one another good-bye and of dropping off a child at school. When a child grows tired and cranky, there is a rhyme for that; and when injured, rhyming words are given to soothe feelings. It's an interesting concept and young listeners will be captivated by the rhymes. Preschool children tend to think they are clever when rhyming words so this book should be something to stimulate that ability.

After finishing the story, the adult reader might give the child words and attempt to hold brief conversations using rhyming phrases. This will help the child understand the concept of rhyming and will also provide a game that is fun to engage in. Author Vanessa Locke has provided charming illustrations for the book and the images are sure to captivate a restless youngster. When talking about tickling, be prepared for a laugh or two! The child listener's curiosity will be piqued after just a couple of illustrations of the rhyming technique. Check out the book and see if maybe you have a rhyming toddler in your house!
