When you find out that you need to move from one home to another, you probably started searching the internet to find out how much the move will cost. This requires that you provide some information online to receive quotes from moving companies. Then the game of phone tag begins. From my experience, people receive dozens of calls and emails from both brokers and moving consultants (more on the difference between these in a later chapter). Additionally estimates are provided based solely on the initial data submitted online.
Although the idea of receiving a considerable amount of estimates may seem appealing, these estimates may be a source of confusion based on the considerable differences in price. This is disconcerting especially since moving is an expensive endeavor. Also, most people don’t have the time or patience to speak with more than a couple of sales representatives. Since hiring a mover involves the handling of your personal belongings, you want to be able to trust the moving consultant and the company that he or she represents. To this end, you may try to research the companies that are contacting you before selecting a mover. However, you need to know what to look for and where to look to ensure that you’ll have a good experience whether you decide to hire a company or do the move yourself.
