Love's Long Journey

In this revised and expanded digital edition, Ioannou looks at the long journey of mothering. The poems move from anticipation, and sorrow for loss before birth, through the tender baby years, the humour, bustle, and worry of childhood, to the stresses of adolescence, and the mixed emotions of an eventual empty nest. As well, she considers a mother’s role in relation to her own aging mother, accepting ultimately “there is no such thing as a grown-up daughter.”
