A book for children who love someone with Parkinson’s disease or any chronic illness

Year after year, Monica and her Mama enjoy taking hikes in the desert near their home. Then one day Monica realizes that Mama is not having fun anymore. Mama notices it about herself too. The hill is too steep, and she cannot keep up with Monica.

When Mama is finally diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, she discusses her illness with her daughter. To help Monica understand, she compares her wellbeing and the progression of her disease to the health of some desert plants. Like Mama when she’s had her medicine, the desert plants are vibrant again when they have had rain.

Through her Mama’s lessons, Monica sees that all living things have their own unique needs for a healthy, happy life.
