As a little girl, Jessica had to fight for the affection of her father, who doted on her baby brother while sending little attention her way. It was a struggle that, as a teenager, led Jessica right into the arms of a boy named Trent. What started as a typical high school romance soon turned into relationship filled with horror and abuse. Trent, who was by turns both charming and psychopathic, stole Jessica away from family and friends, taking her on an odyssey of unspeakable brutality and emotional devastation. She drifted further away from the radiant, purposeful life she once had--and the person she knew, deep down, she really was. As she lost herself, she gained a son--a new life that filled her with hope. But motherhood served to ultimately deepen her sense of horror about the life she now lived. She knew she would have to escape—if not for herself, then for him. It would prove to require more from her than she could have imagined.
