This book is dedicated to anyone who has earned their diploma from the University of Hard Knocks! Be thankful for your own resilience--not everyone can take a beating and stand up. In 1993, a family counselor told the author it was remarkable that she had not attempted suicide. "You haven't even heard half of it!" Today, the author's life is full of love, peace, joy and harmony. Here is light.
Written for mature readers. Contains adult language and violent events.
From the Author: It was difficult to write the events of my life. I had a happy childhood for the most part, thanks to my Chinese stepdad and my mother. Yet, the confusion caused by a pedophile neighbor, the abandonment of my father, and exploitation by rapists I encountered as a naive, bored teenager, wreaked havoc on my life for decades. At age 33, I had to file bankruptcy due to poor planning on my part and the premature birth of my second child. I went from being a free-spirited single woman with perfect credit, brand new furniture and a 1-year-old Subaru sedan, to a welfare mom who had nothing to show for 14 years of labor, with a special needs child dependent on me as his sole provider. My family lived far away and running home to Mommy wasn't an option for me. I had to learn to live without a car, grocery shopping in snowy months by taking a bus with my baby in a backpack, and living on WIC vouchers for adequate nutrition. I was in my own fresh hell, and it was not the first time I had let myself down, but Dr. Knight helped me to discover my strengths and I learned to develop boundaries--and you can too!
