What animal sees with its ears and flies with its hands? Bats do. They also do many other strange things.
Bats do not see very well with their eyes. They “see” with their ears. They use sonar to find things in the dark. Sonar is a way of using sound to make pictures.
Bats send out small clicks of sound. This sound bounces off things. The echo then comes back to the bat. When a bat hears the clicks, it forms a picture.
This book is a shortened version of our popular “Bats: Fliers of the Night" and is intended for beginning readers. With only 1066 easy to read words, young children can experience for themselves the joy of learning about the bat. They will find out the answers to these questions:
If you blindfold a bat, can it still fly?
How fast can some bats beat their wings?
Some bats eat bugs. What do other bats eat?
How strong are a bat baby's feet?
And many more!

Ages 5 to 8
