The US President informs the world of this incredible project as two spaceships head off towards the Hidden Planet the other side of the Sun. On their journey one of them is caught in an ice cloud for three days killing all the crew except a stowaway. The two ships continue to the hidden planet and discover it has acquired a moon which passes close to the planet causing huge tides and extreme weather. The exploration team land and begin explore northwards and encounter a tsunami when they camp near the sea, and later are harassed by pygmies. They then experience high winds, extreme rain, and a dramatic eclipse. Meanwhile the spaceship which has been through the ice cloud develops a number of electrical faults and heads back to Earth for repairs via Mars to re-supply ‘Oasis-One’, the Mars base.
At Oasis-One, the team is intent on finding water using a well drilling machine, but with no luck. Worse still, one of the team disappears after the stores have been delivered and the team later discover that he has been murdered. Also, two of the team are injured when a sump-hole opens up under them while they are drilling. The second spaceship abandons the ground team on the hidden planet to fly to Mars and take the injured crew members back to Earth. Meanwhile the first spaceship has problems entering Earth’s orbit due to the electrical problems. They finally succeed, but just when they start to relax, the imprisoned stowaway steals one of the landing craft and escapes.
