“Making the Move” is an e-book created to help seniors and their caregivers downsize any house quickly, efficiently and with a lot less stress.
For 38 years my sister Elizabeth and I have had a domestic and commercial cleaning business which eventually evolved into a full time catering service. And yet, we never forgot our cleaning customers. As the years past by and they grew older, their children would call us for help. Dad had died and mom was moving into an assisted living facility or the last child had married and was moving out, leaving mom alone in a huge house. It was time to downsize into a senior condo complex. Many times Elizabeth would give a hand downsizing and organizing the move.
In September of 2009 we retired. I thought life would slow down and get a bit boring. I was so wrong. Years before, Elizabeth had agreed to become the Administrator if a Living Trust for an old family friend. By November of that year, our friend was hospitalized for over medicating herself and causing bleeding. Her Dementia had been the root cause of the situation. Her doctors would not let her return home without supervision. It was decided that assisted living would give her the independence she wanted and the supervision she needed.
Once again, we where downsizing and organizing another home for a move. However, this time it proved to be a monumental task. It was my sister job, as her Administrator to handle all of Dot’s affairs. We started from scratch organizing all of Dot’s legal and medical paperwork along with her financial affairs. The next project was the house, which turned into a nightmare. Because of her confused state our normally organized retired teacher, had turned into a hoarder. I can not tell you how many endless hours we spent throwing out junk.
“Making the Move” was born out of our experiences with The Dot Project. It is an e-book created to help seniors and caregivers downsize any house more efficiently and with a lot less stress. The book comes complete with forms to keep you on track and suggestions to save you time and expense.
Keeping organized is an important part of the job. The book will shrink what seems to be impossible into a more manageable perspective. Although this book was designed for seniors, it has other uses. Renters who are moving into their first home or the family who has been transferred out of state will find the forms and info invaluable in keeping themselves on track. It is my sincere hope that “Making the Move” will save the user a great deal of stress and frustration.
