Madame Liberté

Daniel Mackenzie found, hidden in his mother’s wardrobe a signed photograph of a beautiful girl. His mother, Margo tells him that the girl, Françoise is his grandmother who was executed by the Gestapo in the last days of the war. She refuses to say more and Daniel begins to piece together his family history to discover that Françoise was a half English, half French student living in Paris when the Germans invaded France. She flees Paris and is recruited into the dangerous world of the Resistance. Under the noses of the Gestapo and her bullying husband she leads her secret life as an escort for escaped prisoners and men on the run. The men whose lives she saves know her as Madame Liberté but to one of them, she means more than life itself. And Daniel discovers that Margo is hiding a terrible secret of her own as he peels away the layers of lies to uncover a family history of love and courage, deceit and treachery that binds together the Ambérac Cognac and Mackenzie Whisky families.
