Machine Girl is a series of science fiction novels that revolve around the life of an eighteen year old girl who is implanted with a cybernetic spinal column that interfaces with her brain. The machine influences the girl and the girl influences the machine and the results are beyond what the project's architects could have anticipated.

In book three of Machine Girl, Victoria tries to return to what might pass for normal life. She begins adjusting to having a sister, after convincing her parents that adopting Kai Yuen-Ja is a sensible thing. For a short time, she seems to get her way, but soon troubles surface and she finds herself having trouble at school, difficulties in her daily life as well as being drawn into events that are beyond her control as the plots and schemes of the world continue without her permission.
