A while ago an extensive survey was done on people who were fortunate enough to come into a great amount of money at a particular moment in their lives. The money came to them either through winnings at a casino, lottery or an inheritance. In almost every case, within a year, the recipient of the sudden financial prosperity had lost or squandered every cent and had in some cases even found themselves in a worse financial position than they were before their ‘stroke of luck’. Somehow their sudden financial prosperity was just too overwhelming for their character or emotional maturity to handle.
According to 3 John 2 our prosperity and good health are determined and measured directly in proportion to the prosperity of our souls. It says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.” In other words, the prosperity of our souls is a measuring stick or gauge for the prosperity and good health we are to experience in our lives. In simpler terms, John is saying that the measure by which your soul is prospering is the measure by which you will experience prosperity and good health in every other area of your life. If your soul is not prospering, don’t expect your lifestyle and health to do anything else than follow suit.
In LIVING FULL André Roebert explores the triangular relationship between our financial prosperity, our health and issues pertaining to the prosperity of our soul.
