The best thing to do as your children get older is to give them room to make their own mistakes. It won’t be easy, but I feel like it’s necessary. If you don’t trust your children, then they will never feel comfortable coming to you about anything, and they are more likely to keep secrets and even lie to you, especially if you’re that parent that overreacts about everything. Nobody’s perfect. Your children will make bad decisions in their lives, but you still have to trust them to make the right decisions. This is something that every parent will have to face at some point, even if you don’t want to.
