Isabella Lucy Bird (15 October 1831 – 7 October 1904) was a nineteenth-century English explorer, writer, and a natural historian.
The volumes are composed of the letters written during the second half of the journey in the East extending over a period of 2 years. Most were written at the end of exhausting marches and often in circumstances of great discomfort and difficulty. In the volumes one can find the first hand impressions of traveling in Persia and Eastern Asia Minor on customs, landscapes and people encountered during the journey undertaken by the author at the end of 18th century.
