Two-hundred years ago, humans were nothing more than monkeys, staring blankly at the phones in their hands and narrowly avoiding the metal boxes speeding by, controlled (to use the term loosely) by equally distracted monkeys. As Johnny lay in the small bunk of his observation outpost looking at the glowing screen of his data pad, he realized that humanity had not come so far. Sure, they did have intergalactic space travel and civilizations, born and bred on a million newly inhabited planets, courtesy of mega corps like Population Industries, but really, had they truly evolved enough to totally rid themselves of their supposedly lesser selves?

As far as these civilizations, some would thrive and some would burn out, depending on the makeup of their original inhabitants. Earth-254269 was a prime example. The last transmission, before it went dark, indicated two monikers – Asherah for the planet and Ladyland for its one lone colony. Johnny knew the reputation of the colony’s keepsake, Zora Ladyland well. She was a sex-crazed psychopath who very likely ran the colony to shit, possibly before the terraforming had finished and they made planet-fall.

Not that anyone on The Brain, the UEP’s massive space station in charge of implementing and up-keeping the colonization project, actually had a clue what happened. The colony ship arrived as planned. The terraforming devices were launched and the Ladyland informed the station that they were about to touch down on the planet to await the transformation.

It was to be just another fledgling colony, growing, adapting, and building.

That was all that Johnny Selwyn knew when he arrived to observe and report on the colony E-254269. Johnny had encountered plenty of obstacles since touching down on this strange and perilous world. Little did he know the biggest surprise was about to come…
