Into the Flames details Martin's childhood and his first recollection of firefighters. Although his initial desire wasn't to become a firefighter, he progressed into the role to become one of the youngest serving Officers within his Service at the time.
Martin Plews was employed as a Retained Firefighter with Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service in the North-East of England. Within a short period of service he had gained the rank of Crew Manager, and would eventually go on to become a Watch Manager running a twenty firefighter station whilst undertaking the role of Incident Commander when out at shouts.

From "Geordie land" as the North-East is commonly known, Martin was raised by a loving Irish mother and a hard working English father. Alongside of his younger brother Gavin, he would regularly venture out into the woods next to his house to play "soldiers" or make camps and lookouts up in the trees. This audacious side of him led him into a stint in another career prior to further advancing his courageous side in the Fire Service.

Into the Flames gives you an insight into the lives of these amazing individuals who are prepared to give up their free time to help and save lives and property.

Adrenaline charged and deeply personal at times, Into the Flames is a thrilling account of what it takes to become a firefighter, the strains, traumas and emotions that all Emergency Services workers face and the 'never give up attitude' that we should all have when we want to succeed in achieving our goals.
