This book takes the reader on the journey showing the multifaceted nature of Congo wars.
On October 29, 1996, the destiny of nine family members, including Chris Kalenge, changed. They were forced to leave their hometown Bukavu in the east of Congo, when the city fell into rebel hands. It is the beginning of a difficult experience as internally displaced people that will lead them through the rugged mountains and the untamed forests of eastern and northern Congo, where they have to face rebels, traditional warriors and defeated government soldiers before reaching Kinshasa, about 2400 km southwest of Bukavu.
On August 26, 1998, history repeats itself. This time, Chris and other young boys find themselves abandoned by government soldiers and facing the new rebel forces that have just stormed the city of Kinshasa.
