In this short story of the near future, beauty isn't skin deep. It's not in the skin at all, but in the cells and the DNA--in the heart of the flesh where the eye cannot see and the mind can only imagine. At least that's how beauty came to be defined after Everett's Virus made appearance irrelevant.

Jasmine was considered ugly for her whole life, and was treated as a thing by those who might have been her friends. Until Everett's Virus rendered all but a scant few thousand women sterile. But now…now she is beautiful simply by dint of her fertility--a gift that makes no more sense to her than did her former ugliness.

So she dances at Club Xtreme and takes the money of those who formerly mocked her, showing her ugly flesh to those who cannot have it as payback for her years of pain and isolation. Until one night when she begins to rethink her well-earned anger and consider a new possibility. (about 24 pages)
