Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non.
Ian, the Soldier's Son is a fairy tale, included in the Andrew Lang’s Orange Fairy Book. The story follows a knight of Grianaig, a kingdom of the west. He had three daughters, all equally handsome and loved by the folk. Few miles away from them there lived a soldier, who had three sons, strong and fair fellas. A Christmastide was coming, and the tradition was for families to meet each other. So Ian had an idea to spent time with knight’s family. And it was just enough for an adventure to unfold.
