ADD/ADHD has no specific test to diagnose this disorder and can only be diagnosed by gathering information and studying the individual child. All the parties that interact with child must be able to offer an assessment of the child’s behavior. If you have taken them to a doctor then they will ask pertinent questions about symptoms and the effects of the behavior of the child on the family. This disorder is usually diagnosed after a child has consistently displayed at minimum, six of the known specific symptoms of inattention and hyperactive behavior over a period of six months. One point to note that this displayed behavior must be exhibited in at least two different settings. There are some standard guidelines that your primary healthcare will follow in diagnosing your child. This is normally done between the ages of 4 to 18 and it is particularly difficult to diagnose in preschool children as they easily display some of the symptoms and rapidly change during those years.
