Here's help for the Indie-publishing author, should it be needed, by reviewing this quick digest of what I’ve read and learned and put together all in one spot within these 113 pages (when in MSWord version). I love the research, the doing, the sharing of my newfound wealth of info with others.
This is also a good addendum to my e-book A Copyediting Checklist for Novelists. Particularly those subjects discussed under the TIPS FOR AUTHORS section.
First, this e-book is not for the traditional publishing route entailing agents, editors and publishing houses. Instead, the Indie-pubbed author becomes his or her own gatekeeper/clearinghouse, whether hiring others to help along the way or not.
Second, a clarification. I have only Indie-published e-books using online marketplaces. Therefore my works remain digital at present.
Third, a caveat or two. (1) My knowledge is by no means complete. The e-publishing arena is dynamic, constantly changing. While my e-book talks of KDP and PubIt!, once you master them, you will find Smashwords and Kobo easier to assimilate (especially Kobo Writing Life). Still, this handbook does not replace reading all the free introductory materials within each online site and related ones, like the Kindle Boards. (2) I am a one-woman shop, doing it all myself, with the exception of one cover where I sought out a professional artist. You may wish to hire more help than I did, and that is fine. My route is more self-contained. Best of success to all!
