Charles G. Leland was an American scholar, humorist, essayist and folklorist. In accordance with journalist’s working, Charles G. Leland travelled extensively and became interested in folklore and folk linguistics. During his travels he lived and studied with the Algonquin Indians for months at the same time recording their stories, myths and legends.
 “How One of the Partridge's Wives Became a Sheldrake Duck, and Why her Feet and Feathers are Red” is a curious Algonkin tale about one hunter, who lives in the wood and has a “brother”, a goblin, who is so small, that he keeps him in the box. After several time the hunter marries the young girl, who has been noticed by him on the river coast before, and brings her in to the lodge. She does not know about the spirit in the box, and the curiosity will be turn for young woman tragically…
