Heowcruise is set partly in the hot Central Valley of California. It is a story of honesty, friendship, glamor, enthusiasm, wanton materialism and sexual frustration and is full of quirky humor and strange lingo. Torka Reaton is a recent high school graduate who has nothing on the horizon- until a chance encounter sends her on a collision course with four other rebellious teens whose IQs are through the roof but who suffer from serious lack of motivation when it comes to following their families' life plans. For the most part, Torka stays out of the crimes that her boyfriend Joe and his friend Jim commit and just enjoys the windfalls: freedom, excitement, travel, spending sprees and lots of surprising experiences. Joining them are Torka's perverted, brazen best friend Clare and Jim's always-sensible girlfriend Nicole. As they go from heist to car chase to hotel to shopping extravaganza, Torka tries to find out who she is and what she really wants to do in life. She grapples with coming-of-age milestones that other teens passed years before such as learning how to drive and learning how to be in a relationship. Ultimately, she must decide if everything she has risked and given up is worth it. Is she content to live in the moment, or does she yearn for a different future?
