In the paradise of Rabaul, New Britain, on the island of New Guinea, five years after the end of World War II, a young bride, Nadia Tanner, comes to make her home near a trible village with her husband.  A native and convicted murder, Michael, a model prisoner for five year, works around the civilized part of island with other convicts on work gangs.  When Michael sees Nadia for the first time, he is convienced that she is the reborn sister he claims not to have killed years before.  He escapes and kidnappes Nadia and drags her naked into the jungle intending to escape civilization and join the head hunters in the mountains.  In the course of searching for Michael and Nadia, a surprising discovery comes to light about his crime.  But can she be found before Michael gets her acorss the river and into mountains?
