Part of an anthology of space elevator stories limited to 4,000 words
Irena Dem has been offered a free ticket on the first space elevator. She's not sure why but the situation is critical and the World Space Agency didn't summon her to the meeting. They came to her. The reasons are classified. Along with Fan and Yoshi, two other colleagues of esteemed repute, she wonders what this untested journey will bring her, other than an increased fear of heights. Several groups they know of would be happy to sabotage the trip, and everyone of Earth has read of the Starleap Endeavour catastrophe years ago that left thousands dead and caused billions of dollars worth of damage.
As they approach geostationary orbit, the three are invited by one of the WSA members to a shocking discovery. A discovery made even more urgent by a complication that could potentially endanger the life on board.
