• AARP projects that 8,000 Baby Boomers will reach retirement age every day for the next 15 years, and yet one in ten of those don’t ever plan to entirely leave the work force (Gallup). Boomers’ notoriously hard-charging work ethic and drive to get ahead have them interested in “What’s next?”—and it’s not a rocking chair. • There were 18 million total hard cider drinkers in the US in 2015, compared to fewer than 5 million in 2011. (Mine Shaft Brewing) • The craft/local cider segment of the industry continues to grow in importance—in 2016, there was a 39% dollar increase over the previous year. (Nielsen) • Woman-owned businesses are a critical part of the US economy, numbering 7.8 million according to the latest Census data, and growing at twice the rate of men-owned businesses. For women over the age of 50, small business ownership affords many benefits: additional income, a flexible lifestyle and that unbeatable feeling that comes with being your own boss. • According to the CDC, almost one in eight women/couples have infertility issues. (About 12 percent of women between the ages of 15 and 44 have difficulty conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term). • Columbia law school- Surrogacy is a “booming, global business.” The Permanent Bureau of The Hague estimates that the industry grew by 1000 percent internationally between 2006 and 2010. • Currently approximately 1000 American children are born every year through surrogacy. (NPR) There are no regulatory standards across states.
