Did you ever know a guy who, instead of just daydreaming about it, actually quits his bad job, moves to Florida to go fishing, and winds up falling in love with an exotic Cuban lady? Me, neither! That’s why I wrote a book about it. Since you’re reading this, you’re probably a fan of adventure and intrigue like me. If you read a lot, you’ve probably noticed how the novels getting commercially published these days are pretty much the same thing over and over. So, if you want something more unique, how about: • A fishing story – including the adventure of big game sharkfishing. • A love story – where the man actually cares for the woman and worries after their relationship instead of just screwing her. • A fatherhood story – and yes, an 8-year-old child beaten and berated by an abusive father can still be psychologically damaged by it 26 years later. • And, an 80’s story, set back before the terrorist organization Greenpeace and the PC Police messed up our lives – that’s right, back to when a man could fish for his dinner, battle big game sharks for fun, have beach sex with his hot girlfriend, and then beat the shit out of her ex-husband because he needed it. Basically, while vacationing alone in Florida, 34-year-old Kelley Hendricks meets elderly Jake Hart on a fishing pier and helps rescue a sharkfisherman nearly killed by a lemon shark at gaff. He also meets Jake’s adopted Cuban daughter, 30-year-old Shevaun, and decides to leave his Midwestern life. With Shevaun’s help, he becomes mate on a charter boat and learns pier- and deep-sea fishing. With Jake’s help, he learns sharkfishing and strives to catch a shark his size or bigger. Of course, nothing’s easy. Kelley’s abuse at the hands of his father has left him with childhood scars he associates with fishing. Jake’s wife has recently passed away, leaving him a recluse waiting to die. And Shevaun, with whom Kelley thinks he’s finally found a lasting relationship, well... her ex-husband shows up and has some sort of control over her. So, does Kelley get the girl? Catch the shark? Find a father? You’re a few hundred pages of adventure, love, romance, sex, humor, wit, Florida scenery, Florida folklore, Florida history, boating, piracy, friendship, fatherhood, fishing, sharkfishing, beer drinking, moonshine sipping, and Caribbean voodoo from finding out. JUST FYI: Excerpts from the novel have been published, somewhat ironically, in Indiana English and The Heartland Review.
