Growin' Up White is the story of the immense impact that Georgey, a fifty-year-old, black housekeeper has on a white family. Imbued with extra doses of homespun religion, she shapes the family of Wayne Stoner, a physician, his wife, Lillian, nationally known concert pianist and their three rebellious sons. Because of Dr. and Mrs. Stoner's busy lifestyle their children are periodically absorbed into Georgey's all-black neighborhood. There they develop many friends and a multi-racial point of view. However, Indianapolis is not ready for integrated mindsets
