God’s Disciple is a graphic description of life in a nursing home with one slight twist. For the residents of The Lexton Court Nursing Home, there are no peaceful declining years, only terror and death. Lucy O’Brien, a graduate nurse at her first job is the first to suspect all is not well, but even she has no idea of the enormity of the menace. She suspects Nurse Marie Fitzgerald of patient abuse and enlists the aid of Eliza Harris, a charming, mentally alert resident to try and prove it. When Eliza discovers that it is murder, not abuse, she panics, but her crippled body holds her captive. In desperation, Eliza confides to another nurse, thus sealing both their fates as Marie takes drastic steps to prevent exposure. Eliza is critically incapacitated, but her ‘accident’ sparks and investigation into the Home and Dr. Webster, the local GP, is suspected of malpractice. Marie thinks she is safe when he is deregistered pending full criminal investigation, but she has to contend with a grief stricken, grimly determined Lucy, who joins forces with Dr. Webster and the Home’s charge nurse, Beatrice Duke, in a last ditch effort to prove Marie’s guilt. When an attempt on Lucy’s life almost kills David, Lucy’s boyfriend, she sees red and the story climaxes with Lucy leading a wild car chase through the streets of Melbourne in pursuit of a crazed Marie, who justified her actions as being orders from God.
