This memoir is a testimony to the value of God’s love, as demonstrated through marriage.

Corene is a good city girl whose innocence is shattered when she finds herself pregnant in her senior year of high school. She survives the pain of her circumstances by focusing on her childhood dream of becoming a nurse. With an unwavering attitude and focus on the future, she is content until 1964, when she accepts a ride from a stranger that changes her life forever.

Fred is a tenacious young southern man, persistent when it comes to getting what he wants. After he is driven from his home in rural Arkansas by racial upheaval, he relocates to Omaha, Nebraska and continues to work hard. Motivating him along the way, the goal of owning his own business helps him persevere under sometimes inhumane circumstances.

When these two individuals cross each other’s paths, they form a relationship that begins as fool’s gold. However, after many transitional years and continual help from the “Wonderful Counselor” in Isaiah 9:6, the relationship was further refined to silver and, eventually, into genuine gold. The process was not easy, but Fred and Corene’s nearly 50 years of experience has reinforced their belief that marriage can survive in today’s changing times and shine as an example of how God loves us.
