In this article we discuss our four day trip to central Bucharest. We present a day-by-day account of our activities, visiting Revolution Square, Herastrau Park, National Village Museum, Arch of Triumph, the Old Town, Palace of the People, Gara de Nord, and Constitution Square. In essence we completed or partially completed three well defined walks around Bucharest with the assistance of the Metro.
For each of these activities we provide our impressions, key facts, a selection of photos, and the relevant opening times, entrance fees, and references and resources. We also provide a brief selective historical account of Bucharest related to the sights we visited. References and resources identified throughout the article are consolidated in an Appendix. The conclusion presents our highlights, disappointments and lessons learnt.
Bucharest is slowly emerging as an interesting city from a tourism and business perspective. While it does not have the significant historical buildings of Istanbul or the “chic” atmosphere of Budapest, Bucharest has its own particular charm (e.g. friendly people, beautiful buildings, relaxing parks, and a rich and diverse culture). We found there was a lack of tourism information and tourist facilities about Bucharest. Hopefully this eBook will make a contribution and encourage you to visit.
Take three/four days to visit Bucharest on your way from Istanbul to Budapest, it may surprise you.
