Any professional photographer would understand how light is important to photography. The quality of every snapshot is judged by the light effects at play. Too much or too little light can ruin a pretty picture.

Flash photography is the art of using flash devices to balance the light requirements of a picture. Flash is used as a primary light source in cases where natural light is insufficient.  If you use your flash effectively it can be your best friend, helping to give you perfect images shot after shot.

There are many flash techniques that a photographer can make use of to give his pictures perfect lighting. There is the straight flash technique where the flash device is attached to or placed next to the camera. The bounce flash technique bounces the light off a surface so that the light is more diffused. The muted flash is used to allow for a dim/muted detail in the background. The tipped flash technique is a combination of bounce flash and straight flash. The feather flash is used for a large group of people.

Many beginner enthusiasts spend good money on the latest flashguns, with all the gizmos and buttons, thinking that is all they need. Well, as in any art form, it takes a lot of practice to learn how to use all sorts of flash devices to master the techniques so that you can get the desired results in each and every photograph.
