Fire in the Ice is the first installment in an interactive mystery, suspense, crime series. Jimmy Vasquez is a graduate student researching a vast offshore energy resource that could lead to American energy independence. While at sea off South Carolina, he becomes a reluctant participant in a drug deal that goes very bad in a most extraordinary way. Fleeing the scene, Jimmy makes his way to Lexington, Kentucky. He walks into a store for gas and beer, minding his own business. But before he can make it out of the parking lot, he encounters three biker thugs and something terrible happens. He is arrested, and his stepfather hires Ballantine Russo, one of the best lawyers in town. The trial preparation and courtroom proceedings are presented in dramatic and realistic detail. In the end, it all comes down to Jimmy. Will the jury believe him? Fire in the Ice begins a unique series concept in which readers are encouraged to interact with author Mike Palermo, as well as each other, on social media - not simply to comment - but to participate in the development of characters and the flow of the story in subsequent installments.
