Is religion merely a matter of persuasion and habit? He thought so. "All religions are just the opinions of men, and my opinion is that they are fallacy and foolishness." That is what he said. "For a man to decide to be a minister, he must either be ignorant, or too lazy to care about the truth." That is what he contended. He was convinced that Naturalistic Evolution, the "Neo-Darwinian Synthesis", satisfactorily answered all of life's questions. In class and on the campus he vigorously opposed all who described themselves as believers, and he especially delighted in confronting those who had chosen religion as a profession. He had heard all of the arguments in favor of faith, and the truth of the Bible, and found them wanting. Yet this man came to spend his life as a Bible-believing Christian clergyman! What could possibly have changed a mind so set? The answer is in these pages. This book narrates the "evolution" of an unbeliever into a committed Christian. Rev. Langguth spent forty-three years in pastoring eight Methodist churches, until he was forced by his age and the illness of his wife to accept retirement. He holds a lifetime credential to teach Zoological Sciences and Anthropology in the community colleges of California, and a Master of Divinity Degree (cum laude) from the Pacific School of Religion. He now lives in Grass Valley, California.
