Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was born in Portland, Maine. He is the second son in a family of eight children. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow graduated from Bowdoin College. After that he studied modern languages in Europe for three years. Longfellow wrote many lyric poems.
