The biggest recognition obtained due to his works referred to Victorian literary conventions, later to demonstrations of modern social problems. By his followers he was considered as the earliest English psychological novelists. Evan Harrington by George Meredith is novel with a glowing comedy of Victorian era presumptions. The central figure of the novel is an Evan Harrington, the son of the tailor, who has a huge desire to prove his character in upper-class society. He is a young man who accepts the responsibility of doing well for those he loves but the gesture on occasion works against his own interest. He even dares to marry a woman of the upper class and manages to provide abundantly for her. But it is not everything for him. Read full story if you want to know what else manages the main character.
