When 10-year-old Elie Miller runs away from home, the last thing he expects is that he will shortly climb K2 -the world’s highest mountain - and get swallowed in an avalanche. Nor does he expect to travel to a planet in the Sirius constellation, some 8.5 light-years from Earth, and be thrown into a zoo. Yet these mad-cap adventures happen to him, courtesy of Dr. Fortilus Morgus, a bizarre scientist Elie encounters on his trip.

Dr. Morgus resides in a volcano in the Prickly-Prackly Forest, a mystical land inhabited by gargoyles, goblins, pixies, unicorns, and other nature spirits. Non-human entities that he alone has brought to life! And it is into this strange world that Elie stumbles.

At one time a brilliant scientist with the U.S. Government, Dr. Morgus now shuns human contact. He wears a long black cape and a tall hat and looks more like an undertaker than a scientist. And if that weren’t sinister enough, half his face is covered with tree bark! (because of an accident). But Morgus is not evil, only lonely. And now with Elie around, he contemplates certain possibilities – like a protégé. So he dresses Elie (whom he called ‘Benoit de Villiers’) with a long black cape and yes, a tall black hat. And then he introduces Elie to his greatest invention – The Transmorgatron – a machine that allows all wishes to come true (well, at a big price).

Kids will love this 60,000-word novel. If you can imagine a cross between Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, and Dr. Seuss, then voila, you’ll have Elie and the Transmorgatron.
