Calls for improving education have been loud starting at the top with American presidents. Little improvement in schooling has resulted. Technology has dramatically changed and improved countless other fields but not education despite the millions of computers that schools have added in classrooms.
If technology is to improve education it must be used differently. Computers must be allowed to become private tutors for children. The role of human instructors must change in some respects, but teachers will have greater opportunities to help children to advance and to assist them to profit from using computers as tutors.
