D.O.R. deals with the two tumultuous and somewhat comedic years that Vince Daley spent as an enlisted man in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970. Although draft-deferred at the time, he enlists in the Marine Corps as an Aviation Officer Candidate only to find himself seriously injured six weeks into his training in the Officers Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He is initially assigned to a Casual Company for three months before voluntarily dropping from the program and accepting an assignment as an enlisted man in the Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Upon completion of his training in ITR, he will spend the next nineteen months at Camp Lejeune among some unique individuals and amidst chaotic events. Throughout his experiences the Viet Nam War continues to rage and provide a strange backdrop for his story. Some of his experiences will make you laugh and some will make you cry as you shake your head in disbelief, as his story unfolds.

The book certainly provides a unique perspective on the Marine Corps and on the plight of the young men called upon to serve during a very tragic period in our history.
