If You Have an Unusual Problem, Only One Man Can Help.

Private Investigator Dirk Garrick is called by an old friend to help out with a murder investigation in the small town of West Barton, KS. The first victim, a local basketball coach, has been skinned alive. Police Chief Frank Hanson is terrified it’s the start of a killing spree.

He’s right. Hanson brings in Garrick for his “special abilities”. Despite his desire to be a traditional P.I., Garrick is plagued with an open third eye. He can follow a mark’s bio-energy trail like a trail of bread crumbs.

Slowly, Garrick begins to understand the killer - who calls himself Vertigo - is stalking the members of a strange secret society, The Penitent Men. Vertigo and the Penitent Men seem to have a strange interest in the recurring dreams of a young girl, Maci Davenport.

…a girl who talks to death…

Maci is stay-at-home high school student taking care of her dying mother. Maci has begun to have conversations with Death. Strangely, Death has begun talking back. Death warns her that the killer is aware of her recurring dreams about being burned at the stake as a witch. Just how this factors in Vertigo’s increasingly disturbing methods of murder is a mystery only one man can solve.

…each murder more horrific than the last…

As the bodies pile up, Garrick discovers that nothing is at it seems. Vertigo remains illusive, refusing to conform to any known serial killer M.O. Garrick begins to believe that Vertigo may a pawn in a larger scheme.

VERTIGO RISING is the first page-turning thriller in the DIRK GARRICK OCCULT DETECTIVE dark fantasy series.
