These people are weary, and sweat and exhaustion remain persistent companions. The sweat stains their clothing. The exhaustion wears on their faces, and seeps through half swollen eyes and grim faces. Tiny blood sucking demons bedevil them. But, they take little notice. Their slap is but a reflex: a futile effort to keep the army of mosquitoes at bay, as the little devils continue to attack exposed skin.
Their progress is slow, inhumanly so. Their steps are small and insignificant. No matter how much they cut away, the jungle, is all around them, and the jungle does not yield its pathways easily...
