We are docked at the government wharf in Deep Bay on Vancouver Island. The Coast Guard weather report is calling for another night of hurricane force winds after a night of record snowfall in an area that didn’t expect it.

We sit in the dark and wait, the lights on the dock fade in and out as the winds whip the power lines causing a break somewhere in the miles of line that keep things lit up and warm.Audrey is sitting broadside to the dock. One of her great features is the vast amount of windows that allow us incredible visibility and sunlight when it happens.

Tonight we hold our breath as in the intermittent light we can see flying debris, this is a threat to that large expanse of glass. Pieces of plywood swirl up and slam against the boats and dock. Canvas covers are ripped off of flying bridges on near by boats, hatches and sail covers are torn by icy fingers, pieces fly skyward and are silhouetted against the strange orange glow in the night sky.
